Prepare Your AC Unit for the Summer Heat!

We’re all already feeling that Texas heat creeps into our day. This heat means your AC unit will be putting in overtime for the next few months to keep you and your whole house cool. This requires your system to be in tip-top shape. To prepare for the high 90 degrees to a hundred degrees weather, you should get a routine check-up of the entire unit to make sure everything is working perfectly. Manuel and Sons Co. has all the tips you need to set your HVAC system up for success!

Step 1: Clean and Replace Your Filters

It’s recommended to replace your filters every 1-2 months. This makes sure no dust or pollutants are hanging around in your system.  The more clogged a filter is, the harder it is for your AC unit to put it to work. A clean filter allows your system to work at peak energy efficiency, which means a smaller bill for you. It’s a win-win situation!

Step 2: Clean Your Condenser Coils

The condenser coils in your AC unit help release the heat collected in the air by keeping the refrigerant in liquid form. Any debris or dirt build-up can cause your condenser coils to overheat. This can lead to less efficient airflow and your unit potentially overworking and dying in the middle of a summer heatwave.

Leaves, dirt, or grass, that become stuck in the coils should be gently removed before the summer starts up. We recommend using a soft cloth or a can of pressurized air to remove any debris. Be sure to not bend any fins while doing this! If you are unsure about how to clean out your condensers safely, call a Manuel and Sons professional to do it for you.

Step 3: Clean Your Ducts

If you’ve noticed your home is having some airflow trouble, then you may need to check and clean your ductwork. First, check that your ducts don’t have a large amount of dust. If so, give it a good clean. If you’re still having trouble, your ducts may need to be checked by a professional. They can iron out any wrinkle in your system like an unsealed duct or an animal taking shelter within it. If your system doesn’t have any ductwork, this saves you a step on checking that your AC unit is running smoothly!

Step 4: Get an AC Tune-Up

Tune-ups make sure that every aspect of your unit is running effectively to preserve a homeowner’s peace of mind. At Manuel and Sons Co., we offer spring tune-ups to check on your unit. We then see what needs to be replaced or fixed before the heatwave comes through.
